How to use HornbillTalks

HornbillTalks gives you three tools in one place — structured quiz lessons to build your vocabulary, an AI Tutor that breaks down any Malayalam sentence word by word, and an AI Coach that puts you in real conversations. Here's how to get the most out of each one.

1. Levels & Quizzes

Start here. The quiz system walks you through Malayalam in a structured progression — from recognising individual letters all the way to reading common sentences. Each lesson is a short quiz you can finish in under five minutes. Complete it to level up and unlock the next one.

Nine lesson types span three tiers. Beginner builds letter recognition and everyday words. Intermediate introduces ligature joins and richer vocabulary. Advanced pushes into compound clusters and full sentences used in real life.

2. AI Sentence Tutor

Heard a Malayalam phrase you didn't understand? Paste it into the AI Tutor and it will teach you every single word — how it's written, how it sounds, and what it means. No account needed.

The tutor analyses each word in three layers that match how Malayalam script actually works: base characters and vowels, how letters join together (ligatures), and compound consonant clusters — the hardest part of the script. Once you see all three layers, a word that looked impossibly complex becomes readable.

3. AI Conversation Coach

Once you've built some vocabulary, the AI Coach helps you use it. Pick a real-world scenario and the AI plays the other person in the scene — a waiter, a hotel receptionist, a local you're asking for directions. It listens to your replies, keeps the conversation going, and guides you until you've completed every task in the scenario.

Ten scenarios ordered by difficulty. Each has three specific tasks — so you always know what you're working towards, and there's a clear sense of completion when you finish.

“Learning Malayalam is a journey into the heart of Kerala's soul — rich, rhythmic, and rewarding.”

The best approach: use the quiz levels every day to build your vocabulary, reach for the AI Tutor whenever you encounter something unfamiliar, and open the Coach when you want to practise putting it all together. Even ten minutes a day compounds fast.
